I was on public transport the other day and someone next to me was on the phone. I don't know who she was talking to. And even though I was reading my book as I always do, I couldn't concentrate.
She said that she had just gotten out of a failed relationship and that she would spend more time on herself from now on and not give all her energy to others.
I was surprised because I had just come to this mindset myself. And even though it was for slightly different reasons, I had come to the same conclusions. This mindset is of course nothing mindblowing and I wouldn't have written about it if I hadn't come to a different realisation.
We all live apart from each other, making the same mistakes and ultimately drawing the same conclusions. This is not the first time I've heard someone talk about something that I had only recently realized, or was just about to realize.
And even though someone might tell you about it in advance, you have to make the mistakes, you have to discover it for yourself, before you can really believe it.
So while we may feel alone in our weakest moments, we can be sure that everyone around us has experienced similar moments. And if not, they probably will in the future, learning similar lessons and drawing similar conclusions as everyone else.
